Missing In Action
Remember that time when I disappeared for 6 weeks?
I didn’t plan it. It wasn’t supposed to happen.
Yet it happened.
So the first thing I’d like to do is apologize for the Houdini act. I’ll explain what happened, why it happened, and what I’ve been up to in a moment. Regardless, throughout the chaos over the past month-ish, I didn’t call, I didn’t write… and I should have.
Kidnapped by Cannibals.
I was feeling a little restless, so I decided to book a random flight to The Democratic Republic of the Congo. It sounded like a great opportunity to support poverty relief efforts. Unfortunately, I was captured and barely escaped with my life!
As you can imagine, it’s a little difficult to produce a podcast while under that kind of stress (and far from the technology to record, edit and produce).
And as I’m sure you can tell by now… this didn’t happen.
I wasn’t kidnapped. In fact, I haven’t gone anywhere in the past 6 weeks.
What Really Happened.
I recorded my interview with Randi Busse for Episode 106 on September 8th. It was scheduled for release on Monday, October 9th.
Now, I don’t remember the exact date it happened, but in between the release of Episode 105 and the scheduled release of Episode 106, I decided to make what I thought was a minor change to my website. Specifically, I wanted to install SSL certificates on YourBestManager.com and the subdomains Different.YourBestManager.com and Partners.YourBestManager.com for added online security and protection.
I won’t go into the details, but something screwed up.
Maybe it was my fault, maybe it wasn’t.
Regardless, I spent a good few days fighting with my web hosting provider and in the end, I had to rebuild every single page of my entire website… manually.
And unless you were visiting certain web pages or trying to do certain things, you probably would have had no idea.
Fortunately, some of the core pages were still temporarily working and I had a backup of the entire site, but not one that I could simply re-upload and call it a day. I had to essentially re-write and re-design each page and re-build the entire back-end of the Your Best Manager Partners website and the Different Leadership Development website.
I’m grateful that I am able to build and manage every aspect of YourBestManager.com, although I have to admit. This was a time where it may have been wiser to just pay someone else to do it!
I’m also grateful to so many of you who reached out to me during this time to see if everything was okay. I really appreciate your support.
The work was often overwhelming and frustrating, leaving very little time for social media and communication (not an excuse, I could have provided an update or two). At the same time, I was also working with a number of new clients which consumed much of my ‘free’ time.
I have to say though, while it hasn’t been an easy 6 weeks (and honestly, I’m only sharing a portion of the challenges faced), I’m very excited to be back, knowing how many of you find value in the Your Best Manager podcast and the additional resources and training I offer.
So, Thank you.
Thank you for the encouragement and support.
And thank you for your patience!
As a token of my gratitude, I have a few gifts below:
